Week One: Outreach Classes
Have you ever longed for a way to reach out to your community? Learn how to find new Bible study contacts and give a short Bible study to bring courage, light, and hope to searching hearts. You’ll learn how to recognize when God is working on their hearts and how to use God’s word to help them make a decision. Bring: KJV or NKJV Bible, notebook, and a pen/pencil.
Learn how to share your faith through the printed word! Discover the best way to approach people with a tract, find out how to effectively use available materials, and learn how to follow up with an interest once you’ve made a contact. On Sabbath you’ll go door-to-door in the local community, putting into practice what you’ve learned. Calling all musicians! Here is a wonderful opportunity to get together, polish your skills, and use them for God’s glory. You’ll practice and perfect several sacred orchestral selections to share on Sabbath. Bring: Your portable instrument and a pencil. Prerequisites: Ability to read music and play an orchestra instrument.
Learn a selection of beautiful choir pieces throughout the week. These songs will be prepared for a special Sabbath afternoon musical program at a local nursing home, giving you the opportunity to share encouragement through music. Prerequisite: Ability to sing on tune.
Discover the joy of bringing the gospel to the most receptive audience: children! You’ll discover ways to reach the minds and hearts of kids at home or in the mission field. Learn how to conduct a complete children’s evangelistic series using YD’s Truth 4 Youth evangelism program. Put your new skills to work in a Sabbath afternoon program for the local children. Bring: notebook and a pencil/pen.
Week One: Recreation Classes
Come and explore how you can create something beautiful with water and paints! In this class, you will learn basic watercolor techniques: water control, wet on wet, wet on dry, lifting, washes, layering, and more. We will use our growing skills to paint flowers, birds, animals, and landscapes. Many projects will be perfect for turning into greeting cards. Class fee: $8
Learn the basics of crochet and put your new skills to work by creating a lovable stuffed crochet animal you can take home. Yarn and crochet hooks will be provided. Class fee: $10
In this hands-on class, you’ll learn beginner sewing skills like pinning fabric, sewing straight seams, safely using sewing tools, and understanding simple sewing techniques and construction. You’ll put those skills to work by sewing a tote bag—perfect for day trips, carrying books, or using as a reusable shopping bag. You’ll choose from a variety of fabrics to create a bag that fits your style and purpose. If time allows, you may also make a small project like a coin purse or keychain. Bring: A pair of sharp sewing scissors, measuring tape, and sewing pins (put in checked luggage if flying). Optional: Bring an electric sewing machine. Class fee: $10.
What would you do in an emergency? Find out how you can help others who have been hurt, and what you can do to prevent injury and sickness. You’ll get hands-on experience treating simulated fractures, wounds, impaired breathing, and other emergencies. Bring: clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, and for Friday, permanently stained. Girls should wear loose pants and a fingertip-length tunic.
Have you ever wished you could communicate without speaking or writing? In ASL Foundations, you’ll learn the manual alphabet and practical, everyday signs used in American Sign Language. You’ll also discover simple ways to communicate with respect and confidence while learning how to share Christ’s love in the Deaf community.
Learn to strengthen and properly condition your body for better physical performance and service! Whether you’re ready to attempt your first pushup or train for advanced exercises, this class will challenge you to take the next step. Have fun during group workouts, games, and exercise progressions, while you increase your flexibility, learn about muscle growth and recovery, and proper nutrition. You’ll create a personalized fitness program so you can continue your journey after camp is over. Come prepared to challenge your core, legs, shoulders, back, and arms, and leave stronger than you came. What to wear: Flexible clothing that allows for a full range of motion (dry-wicking recommended). Girls: fingertip-length tunic over loose pants.
No summer would be complete without a paddle and a canoe! Instruction in strokes, maneuvers, and safety will have you skimming across beautiful Lake Roosevelt in no time. What to wear: Boys: long T-shirt & knee-length shorts. Girls: fingertip-length shirt over knee-length shorts.

You’ll learn the basics of first aid and scene safety plus a few more advanced concepts including moving the injured, airway management and rescue breathing, bandaging techniques, triage, and caring for the burned or bleeding patient. You will also have the opportunity to practice your knowledge during hands-on simulated emergencies. Bring: clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, and for Friday, permanently stained. Girls should wear loose pants and a fingertip-length tunic.
You—yes, you—can be an effective colporteur! After practicing your skills in the classroom, you will go out into the community for some real door-to-door experience! Expect to earn some money and spread blessings! Advance preparation: We will send a canvass for you to memorize before camp. Bring: Walking shoes and a sturdy bag for carrying books. Disclaimer: Students in this class will miss quiet time and special activity most days.
Do your knees knock at the thought of standing up front? This class will help you gain the confidence to proclaim the good news! In the course of the week, you’ll gain experience and boldness as you learn techniques for giving Scripture and prayer, and preparing and delivering a sermonette. Bring: Strong’s Concordance, notebook, pencil, and eraser.
Mission Skills Lab gives you a hands-on taste of real-life mission work taught by a missionary. Each day includes a quick look at why missions matter, plus fun, practical challenges like filtering water, packing essentials, and working as a team. You’ll also practice sharing your faith through simple Bible storytelling, learning cross-cultural communication, and creative gospel tools. Come ready to try new things and build skills you can use anywhere! Bring: notebook and pen/pencil.
Learn the basics of caring for a vehicle, from trouble shooting and maintenance to emergency procedures and pre-travel inspections. The class will get hands-on experience with various repairs and maintenance routines as well as understanding what it would look like to do a major repair. Bring: old clothes or coveralls.
Could you survive being lost or stranded in the wilderness? Learn techniques for surviving in the wild using simple equipment and nature’s provisions. You’ll learn about wilderness safety, wild edible plants, water procurement and purification, fire building, and shelter construction. Bring: sturdy footwear, a water bottle, and a notepad and pencil.
Learn the principles of natural healing to boost your own health and help those around you. Develop skills in performing a basic health assessment, hydrotherapy, and other home remedies. This inspiring class will help prepare you to be a medical missionary at home or abroad. Bring: Notebook, pen/pencil.

Through simple sketches, observations, and reflections, you’ll explore the details of creation and what they can teach you about God. This class is about paying attention and practicing the quiet God calls us to in Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God.” No art experience is needed, just a willingness to slow down and see. By the end of the week, you’ll have a personal journal filled with your own drawings, thoughts, and reflections: a keepsake of the ways God spoke to you through creation. Bring: journal and pen.
Wilderness Tracking teaches you how to read the hidden stories of the outdoors. Learn to spot tracks, trails, and subtle signs that reveal where people and animals have been—and what they were doing. Through hands-on practice, you’ll sharpen your awareness, move more confidently through the woods, and start seeing the forest in a whole new way.

Become “Radio Active” as you explore the exciting world of Amateur Radio—the hobby that lets you communicate across town, across the country, or around the world…even when the power fails, the internet goes down or cell phone towers are out of reach! Campers will learn the basics of radio communication, discover real radio operating skills, and participate in fun hands-on activities. Students who register early will receive study materials by email before camp. Class fee: $15 for those who do not take the exam. Optional: Those who complete 10+ hours of self-study may be well-prepared to take the official FCC Technician Class Amateur Radio Licensing exam during YD Camp. (Additional fees: FCC exam fee: $15 + $35 FCC application fee if you pass; Legal photo ID and SS# required).
In this class, campers will learn about natural hair and skin care treatments and remedies, create their own beauty product using natural ingredients,
and explore relevant Scriptures that highlight the importance of inner beauty. We will do hands on
treatments such as facials, hair masks, simple hairstyling, and more! Throughout the week, we will also make some hair and skin care
products to take home. If you’re looking to get new hairstyling ideas, tame unruly curls, or just want to learn more about natural hair and skin
health, this class will leave you feeling empowered and equipped with knowledge and skills to incorporate into your self-care routines. Girls only. Bring: a Bible and clothes you don’t mind getting clay and oils on. Class fee: $10.

You’ll learn the basics of exposure, lighting, and composition, and leave with new skills for shooting portrait, landscape, and wildlife pictures. Bring: pen/pencil, notebook, digital camera with manually adjustable aperture and shutter speed. The camera is required.

Would you like to learn about what goes on inside a hive, what equipment is needed for successful beekeeping, and how to extract your own honey? Even if you think bees are a little scary, this class will show you how easy beekeeping is, and just how gentle bees can be.
